Dr. Seuss top 30 QuotesYes, I know, that quote really ends with “I learned in Kindergarten”, but think back to your own kindergarten experience, or visit any kindergarten in the country and I will bet their bookcases are loaded with Dr. Seuss books.  Why do you think that is?   After all, Dr. Seuss gives us so many of the basic rules of life and he does it in a fun and positive way.  I truly believe that if we were to start following these rules today, it would make for a more pleasurable and less medicated world than we have today.  I won’t go over all of them, but let’s take a look at a few of my favorites.

“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”
Dr. SeussHappy Birthday to You!

That is not only fun to say, but something to think about. Be yourself, not a carbon copy of someone else.  This world is full of everyone trying to be like one another from teenagers to senior citizens, we want to fit in and be accepted.  That is fine, but if you think about it, it is the individuals that stay true to themselves that end up being the happiest!

“You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”
Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

This one is one that I not only try to instill in my children, but try to remind myself of often.  Instead of blaming the world for your lot in life or in job, do something about it!  I once heard someone say, “You can make your own choices, but not your own consequences.” Think about that, but not for too long or you may miss out on choosing something significant to do!

“A person’s a person, no matter how small.”
―  Dr. Seuss Horton Hears a Who!

In a nutshell, “Get over yourself!”  If you have done well for yourself, that is great, but today, so many people are judged by where they live, how they dress, what kind of car they drive, or even what they look like.  As a society, we have chosen not to look at the person on the inside, and for that reason, I think we have failed each other.   If we could turn back time and treated people better, could we have avoided some terrible tragedies?  I think so.

Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one.”
Dr. Seuss, One fish, Two fish, Red fish, Blue fish!

This is how we should put an end to each day.  Remember the high points, forget the low ones. Go to bed with a clear head, and look forward to tomorrow.
