Thursday, 10:32pm…

A woman is sitting in a dimly  lit office in front of her computer, tapping away at the keyboard and frantically ruffling through papers, frustrated.

She finishes the email she was writing. Her posture changes, she physically changes gears, stacking some papers and files off to her side. She seems more relaxed, as she takes a deep breath. “Okay, marketing. let’s check how our website is doing.”

She goes to her browser, types in those familiar keys GOOGLE. An ominous search box taunts her query. She types in her company name, and breathlessly waits the .21 seconds for her results to return. Her eyes quickly scan down the search results: page 1…click. Page 2…Click. Page 3…CLicK. Page 4…CLICK CLICK. Page 6. Page 7. Page 8! Salvation finally comes, her company is found on page number 13, rank number 119, Yay!– “What??? I just got a new website 6 months ago!! $25,000 for our new website and this is what we get? Money down the drain!” Extremely angry, the woman vows to never spend another dime on  internet marketing.

The Silent Killer strikes again. Many websites have seen this demise. At first, its the digital Messiah, guaranteed to solve all problems, even in accounting. The web company pitches you with all the colors, features, and promises that this website WILL save you. You get  excited about the idea of having a fresh new presence online for all the world to admire. The day comes. You login, type in your domain, and BAM! You beautiful new website launches on your monitor in grandiose glory, throwing you into a pixelated trance, seducing you with its speed, lines, and deep, rich content.

One year later, the honeymoon is over. Your beloved site has become a burden, and the “free” analytics report you get each month showing LACK of traffic to your site just slowly pushes you into a deep digital depression.  Is this your story? There’s no reason to hide among the thousands of website owners with the same story. There is hope, and its name is SEO.

So many businesses think, “Hey I’ve got a website, so people can find me on the internet.” This simply isn’t true.  The truth is, millions of sites go unnoticed every single day, thrown into the digital landfill of wasted marketing dollars. They might even think they’re site is optimized, but thats probably not true either, especially when their teenage neighbor submitted their site to Google.
